For more than two decades, our firm has built highly customized residences for clients who value a proven track record of uncompromising quality. Many of our clients build from afar while managing complex personal and professional schedules. They require transparency, superior quality, consistent communication, and a level of service that removes uncertainty from the building experience. Our work is focused on delivering exceptional homes with the certainty required to build confidently—regardless of distance. Dillard-Jones Builders was founded by an engineer with a simple conviction: exceptional homes are the product of disciplined process, early problem-solving, and sustained accountability. That mindset continues to define how we operate today. As a family-led firm, we remain personally involved in each project while leading a tightly aligned group of architectural, interior design, and construction professionals who collaborate from the very beginning. Our approach—All-Inclusive by Design—is structured to eliminate uncertainty before it reaches the jobsite. Unlike traditional models where design, pricing, and construction are fragmented and sequential, our process resolves scope, specifications, team alignment, and cost drivers in advance of any binding commitment. By solving problems early and guiding each home through every phase with a consistent core team, we deliver projects that are calm in execution, exacting in detail, and enduring in performance. Palmetto Bluff Welcome to Palmetto Bluff Located between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Palmetto Bluff stands as one of South Carolina's most enchanting coastal communities. This 20,000-acre conservation-oriented development harmoniously blends luxurious living with the Lowcountry's natural splendor. What distinguishes Palmetto Bluff is its steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship. Nearly one-third of the property is protected conservation land, preserving maritime forests, salt marshes, and pristine waterways. The May River curves its way through Pametto Bluff as the community's lifeblood, offering residents not only spectacular views but also premier fishing, kayaking, and boating opportunities. The community's architecture nods to traditional Lowcountry design, featuring homes with wide verandas, metal roofs, and raised foundations. All thoughtfully positioned to minimize environmental impact that’s a major factor in coastal southeastern residences, while maximizing the peerless natural views. Palmetto Bluff's rich history adds another layer to its character. Archaeological evidence reveals Native American settlements dating back thousands of years, while later plantations shaped the landscape. This heritage is carefully preserved through the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy, which conducts research and educational programs. The community boasts exceptional amenities: an award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, equestrian facilities, tennis courts, multiple swimming pools, and a shooting club. Yet what residents often cherish most is the genuine sense of community fostered through regular gatherings and events. For those seeking a coastal lifestyle that balances luxury with environmental consciousness, Palmetto Bluff offers an unparalleled experience... a place where modern comforts coexist with South Carolina's timeless natural beauty. Kiawah River Welcome to Kiawah River Kiawah River, nestled on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina, is a thoughtfully designed coastal community that harmoniously blends traditional Lowcountry architecture with sustainable living practices. The community's homes draw inspiration from historic agrarian structures, featuring elements such as wraparound porches, raised foundations, and expansive central hallways. These design choices not only pay homage to the region's architectural heritage but also promote natural ventilation and comfort, essential for the Southern climate. Materials used throughout the community are selected for their durability and environmental friendliness, ensuring that each home complements the surrounding natural landscape. Beyond individual residences, Kiawah River's master plan emphasizes a strong connection to nature and community. Over 50% of the 2,000-acre property is preserved as open space, including marshlands, ponds, and nature trails. The community incorporates sustainable infrastructure, such as rice trunk gates—a nod to 17th-century water management techniques—to regulate tidal flows and support local ecosystems. Additionally, the integration of pollinator gardens and wildflower meadows fosters biodiversity and enhances the area's natural beauty. Kiawah River stands as a model for environmentally conscious development, where design and materials are thoughtfully chosen to reflect and preserve the unique character of the Lowcountry. Design Guidelines Kiawah River’s design guidelines are deeply rooted in Lowcountry traditions, prioritizing simplicity, durability, and harmony with nature. Homes are designed with materials like wood siding, metal roofing, and brick foundations—selected for their regional authenticity and resilience. Architectural forms are influenced by vernacular farmhouse styles, featuring gabled roofs, porches, and subtle... We use a G&C subfloor that’s glued and screwed over an L/720 engineered floor system, which means stiffer, squeak-free floors. The exterior walls are framed with durable 2x6 lumber, and we install top-of-the-line Sierra Pacific windows and doors for exceptional strength and performance. We build homes that offer a quieter, more comfortable living experience. We use spray foam insulation throughout the entire exterior shell—including the roof—paired with 2x6 framing for added insulation and noise reduction. Inside, we install rockwool insulation in mid-floors and interior walls to further dampen sound between rooms and living spaces. Even the plumbing is designed for silence, with cast iron drops that prevent the sound of running water. Safety is a top priority in every Dillard-Jones home. We include multi-point locking systems on all exterior doors and pre-wire every home for a full security system. These features work together to offer our homeowners greater peace of mind. Our Process A Welcome from Tom Dillard Thank you for considering Dillard-Jones Builders for your custom home in the Carolinas. Rather than choosing between great-room style living and a formal dining room, they're creating homes that offer the best of both worlds: casual gathering spaces for everyday life and dedicated dining rooms for more intentional moments. Gathering for Mealtime is Back While open kitchens and great rooms remain popular for daily modern life, homeowners are rediscovering the value of a dedicated dining space for sit-down meals. A formal dining room creates a sense of occasion that's distinct from casual counter seating or breakfast nooks. It's a room that invites people to slow down, put phones away, and share a proper meal together. In high end renovations, families are choosing homes that offer the ease of an open kitchen for weeknight dinners and homework, plus a separate dining room where mealtime becomes something more intentional and connected. Dinner Parties Feel More Grand There's a reason hosting feels different in a formal dining room. The space itself elevates the experience. A thoughtfully designed dining room transforms an ordinary dinner party into something memorable. Guests feel the difference when they walk into a room designed specifically for gathering. It's about creating an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. The right dining room allows for candlelight, carefully curated table settings, and the kind of unhurried conversation that makes people want to linger. For homeowners who love to entertain, this room... Spring in Charleston is when the city truly comes alive. Sullivan's Island holds a special place in Charleston's coastal landscape... a barrier island where historic charm meets laid-back beach culture, where centuries-old live oaks shade quiet streets, and where the Atlantic Ocean's rhythms define daily life. Building here means honoring tradition while creating something entirely your own, which is exactly what makes 2910 Jasper Boulevard such a remarkable achievement. Partnering with Aaron Cote Architecture Creating an exceptional beachside home requires more than construction expertise — it demands architectural vision that understands both place and possibility. That's why our collaboration with Aaron Cote Architecture was essential to bring this Sullivan's Island retreat to life. Known for designs that respect coastal heritage while pushing creative boundaries, Aaron Cote Architecture brought the perfect blend of historical sensitivity and contemporary innovation to this project. Their approach honors Sullivan's Island's unique character while crafting spaces that feel fresh, functional, and utterly luxurious. And to bring the rooms of this magnificent home to life, we worked with Tribus Interior Design to choose all the right artistic touches. A Grande Dame of Elegant Beachside Living At 4,444 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms across two thoughtfully designed floors, this home commands attention without overwhelming its island setting. The scale feels substantial yet appropriate, reflecting a structure that stands with quiet confidence among this community’s eclectic architectural tapestry. Every detail, from the elevated foundation essential for coastal resilience to the carefully considered proportions, to the inviting pool by Liquid Pools & Outdoors perfect for entertaining, speaks... Luxury home renovation is exciting, transformative... and often chaotic. When you're investing significantly in upgrading your space, the last thing you want is to live through the dust, noise, and daily disruptions that come with major construction. For homeowners living out of town during their renovation, the key to success lies in choosing the right partner, maintaining your peace of mind, and trusting the process. First, Choose the Right Renovation Partner When you're making a substantial investment in your home, trust isn't optional. In fact, it's everything. You need a renovation partner who understands that substantial investment means solid trust, and takes that responsibility seriously. At Dillard-Jones Renovations, we have a proven track record, transparent communication practices, and references from clients who chose remote renovations. We treat your home with the same care and attention we would want for our own, because we understand that you're trusting our team with one of your most valuable assets. Reduce Stress by Living Elsewhere Most people who have renovated their home will tell you: don't live in a construction zone if you can avoid it. Even the smoothest renovations mean constant noise, drywall dust settling on everything, lack of functional kitchen or bathrooms, and workers arriving in the early morning hours.   Living in the midst of this reality isn't just inconvenient, it can be genuinely stressful. Temporarily lodging elsewhere during your renovation is a practical decision that protects your peace and often speeds up the project. Without homeowners navigating around work areas... We at Dillard-Jones are thrilled to unveil our latest project: The Sandbar, a stunning new Idea Home taking shape in the sought-after Kiawah River community. This elevated coastal residence represents everything we love about Lowcountry living, and we're inviting you to experience every step of its creation. A Lowcountry Retreat of Porches & Pavilions The Sandbar exemplifies the essence of Southern coastal architecture with its gracious design and abundance of outdoor living spaces. Multiple covered porches grace the home front and back, creating seamless transitions between interior comfort and the natural beauty that surrounds Kiawah River.   The classic standing seam metal roof in soft gray complements the home's sandy exterior and sage green shutters, while the dramatic front staircase welcomes you to the main living level.   In the back, a ground-level pavilion offers a shaded gathering space for grand entertaining, while the beautiful pool offers cool-down sophistication on hot South Carolina days. Every architectural detail has been thoughtfully considered to maximize breezes, views, and that allure of feeling like you’re on a permanent vacation. A Calm Reflection of Coastal Living Large windows throughout flood the home with natural light and frame views of Kiawah River's marshes, maritime forests, and waterways. This isn't just a showcase of design trends... it's a blueprint for how coastal living should feel: effortless, elegant, and deeply connected to place. Follow Along as it All Comes Together Over the coming months, we'll be documenting The Sandbar's transformation from blueprint to reality, with help from... Seasoned construction leader to oversee Charleston, Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Beaufort markets February 10, 2026 (Charleston, SC) –Dillard-Jones Builders, a family-owned luxury custom homebuilder serving the Carolinas, announced today that Trae Redmond has joined the firm as Vice President of Coastal Construction, overseeing construction activities across Charleston, Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Beaufort. A Charleston native and multigenerational builder, Redmond brings more than 25 years of experience building along the South Carolina coast, with deep expertise in custom homes, coastal construction practices, and operational leadership. In his new role, he will lead day-to-day operations throughout the Lowcountry, supporting the company’s continued growth while maintaining its longstanding commitment to craftsmanship, performance, and build quality in complex coastal environments. Throughout his career, Redmond has led large construction teams, managed highly complex custom residential projects, and worked closely with architects and trade partners to deliver consistent results in demanding coastal conditions. He has built extensively across the Charleston area and surrounding barrier islands, earning a reputation for technical expertise, attention to detail, and hands-on leadership. Redmond has also played a prominent role in the regional building community, previously serving as President and Chair of the Charleston Home Builders Association, where he helped advance industry standards and collaboration across the Lowcountry. “Trae brings a depth of experience that is especially valuable in our coastal markets,” said Tom Dillard, President of Dillard-Jones Builders. “He understands the realities of building at a high level in coastal South Carolina – from regulatory requirements to durability and performance –... There's something satisfying about architecture that doesn't try too hard. The Dune, our newest design coming soon to Kiawah River, strips away pretense to reveal what coastal Carolina building traditions have always taught: that honest materials, thoughtful proportion, and respect for place create homes that remain timeless. Honoring Lowcountry Simplicity The Dune takes its design cues from the working heritage of coastal Carolina: structures built by craftsmen who understood that durability and utility need not compromise simple beauty. Elevated on tabby stucco piers that pay tribute to regional building history, the home combines horizontal lap siding with vertical nickel gap paneling. This creates visual texture through the interplay of simple forms rather than applied decoration.   Exposed rafter tails beneath the standing seam metal roof add functional detail that serves both structural and aesthetic purposes. Black-framed windows punctuate clean facades with crisp geometry, while the restrained color palette - soft neutrals accented by natural wood tones - allows the architecture itself to speak. This isn't minimalism for its own sake... it's clarity of purpose translated into built form. Accessible Yet Spacious Living One of The Dune's most compelling qualities is its commitment to delivering generous living spaces within a framework of smart-sized luxury construction. By prioritizing smart design over expansive square footage and unnecessary complexity, the home achieves an openness and flow that belies its efficient footprint.   With 2,493 square feet of living space, including 3 bedrooms and 3. 5 baths, The Dune is an example of intentional, thoughtful... The decision between building a new home and renovating your current one is one of the most significant choices you can face as a homeowner in and around Charleston. With the area's unique blend of historic charm, waterfront communities, and growing neighborhoods, the answer isn't always straightforward. Here's how to determine which path is right for you. Renovate If Your Home Has "Good Bones" You can begin by taking an honest assessment of your current home's structural integrity and layout potential. Homes with solid foundations, quality framing, and functional floor plans are prime candidates for renovation rather than replacement. If your home's core structure is sound but the finishes are dated, or if you need to reconfigure spaces rather than add significant square footage, renovation often makes more financial and practical sense.   Many Charleston-area homes, particularly those built in desirable areas, may have architectural details that you might not easily replicate in new construction. Our own local renovation team on Johns and Daniel Island have proven that even houses requiring substantial updates can be transformed into modern, ideal homes while preserving their fundamental strengths. If You Love Your Neighborhood, You Should Stay Location is everything, and if you've found your perfect neighborhood, that's worth considerable investment. Perhaps you're steps from your favorite beach access, your children are thriving in their school district, or you've built irreplaceable relationships with neighbors. These intangible benefits often outweigh the appeal of new construction elsewhere.   Renovating allows you to maintain your established community... If you’ve ever dreamed of combining your love for “the greatest game ever played” with the kind of next level home you’ve always wanted... The Cottage Group might have the perfect option for you. Nestled within the stunning landscape of The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, Fairway's Edge represents a rare opportunity to build a smart-sized luxury home that Cottage Group is known for... where you can embrace an enviable lifestyle that includes championship golf, natural beauty, and thoughtful community design. In the heart of Bluffton's historic landscape, where centuries-old oak trees tell stories of the Lowcountry's rich past, one charming cottage was ready to write its next chapter. What began as a smaller structure with undeniable character evolved into a stunning example of thoughtful renovation. This comprehensive whole-house renovation by Dillard-Jones demonstrates that with vision, your much-loved house can become an extraordinary home that reflects who you are now. Historic Beach Cottage Needed a Facelift The original cottage, though brimming with Lowcountry charm, needed some additional space, a wider porch, and fresh interiors. Years of coastal weather had taken their toll on the exterior, with faded paint, aging rooflines, and structural elements that no longer met modern standards. Inside, outdated systems and worn finishes obscured the home's inherent potential. Yet beneath the surface challenges were good bones and an authentic seaside character worth preserving. The renovation team approached this project with reverence for Bluffton's architectural heritage while acknowledging the need for substantial updates. Every decision balanced preservation with progress, ensuring the cottage's historic soul remained intact even as it received the comprehensive facelift it desperately needed. New exterior materials were carefully selected to echo traditional Lowcountry aesthetics while providing superior durability against humidity and salt air.   A Wider Footprint for More Interior Space While the cottage's original footprint held charm, it simply couldn't accommodate modern family living. Strategic expansion became essential to transform this home from quaint to comfortably livable. The design team studied the property's orientation, views, and... Standing at the crossroads between renovation and new construction can feel overwhelming. You may love your current home, and yet you realize it’s time for some changes. Should you transform your existing space or start fresh with a custom build? This decision requires careful consideration of multiple factors, because it impacts your future lifestyle in more ways than one. If You Love Your Home & Neighborhood The emotional connection to your current location often provides the clearest direction. If you've got great neighbors, love the local schools, and feel at home in your community, renovation might be the best choice. Consider the irreplaceable elements of your current situation: mature landscaping that took decades to grow, proximity to favorite restaurants and parks, or that perfect commute to work or other activities. These perks of staying put can outweigh the convenience of building new elsewhere. Compare Renovation & Building Costs Renovation costs can vary dramatically, because of unknown factors affecting the overall budget. While building new offers predictable pricing and modern efficiency standards, renovation might stretch your budget further in desirable areas where land costs are high. Factor in hidden renovation expenses like structural surprises and permit delays, among others. Compare these against new construction expenses including land acquisition, utility connections, and landscaping from scratch. Don't forget to consider your home's current equity and how each option affects your long-term investment. See Yourself 10 Years Into the Future Project your family's needs a decade ahead. Will your children still live at home,... Staying in a beloved neighborhood can lessen the worries of growing older, as well. This trend represents a shift toward creating beautiful, accessible spaces that plan for future needs without sacrificing style or comfort. Modern aging-in-place renovations integrate mobility and safety considerations with elegant design solutions. Widening doorways create grander entrances with architectural details, while installing useful fixtures like hotel-inspired grab bars make bathrooms safer for elderly people. Strategic custom flooring changes can provide secure surfaces without compromising visual appeal. As a few examples, these modifications prove that accessibility and luxury can coexist seamlessly. Transforming Kids' Rooms Into Something New Empty nesters have the freedom to reimagine their adult children’s rooms as something more practical. Possible choices could include a luxurious home office, craft room, or guest suite that features built-in storage. Because you love your home, but you need to have it reflect the lifestyle and aesthetic you have now. When contemplating a full home renovation, the choices you make at the beginning of the process often determine the success of your project. While the DIY approach might seem appealing for its perceived cost savings, the complexity of comprehensive renovations demands professional expertise. Here's why partnering with a design-build firm is the smartest decision for your home transformation. You Don't Take Chances with Your Biggest Investment Your home is likely the largest financial investment you'll ever make. When undertaking a full renovation, the stakes are simply too high to risk miscalculations, poor planning, or substandard workmanship. Design-build firms bring together architects, designers, and contractors under one roof, ensuring a cohesive vision and seamless execution. This integrated approach eliminates the communication gaps that often occur when homeowners try to coordinate multiple independent contractors. With a single point of accountability, you're protected from the finger-pointing that can happen when problems arise. Your investment deserves this level of protection and expertise. DIY is for Small Projects, Not Major Renovations While hanging shelves or painting a bedroom are perfectly reasonable DIY endeavors, full home renovations involve complex systems that interact with one another. Structural modifications, electrical rewiring, plumbing relocations, and HVAC adjustments require specialized knowledge and permits. Design-build professionals understand building codes, structural engineering principles, and the proper sequencing of construction phases. They can anticipate potential issues... Contemporary architecture is witnessing a remarkable shift as one-story homes experience a resurgence in popularity. Once overlooked in favor of homes that maximized square footage on smaller lots, these single-level dwellings are now a welcome addition to the luxury real estate market. This renewed interest isn't merely nostalgic — it's practical. As older generations seek to age in place without navigating stairs, younger families appreciate the safety aspects and connection to outdoor spaces. Architects and designers have embraced this emerging trend, reimagining the humble ranch and rambler with contemporary flair. Today's single-story homes feature open floor plans that eliminate the compartmentalized feel of mid-century predecessors. Vaulted ceilings and cathedral windows invite abundant natural light, eliminating any worries of a dark or boxed in type of feel to the home. Innovative architects are proving that one-story living needn't sacrifice style or functionality. As land costs continue rising in many markets, the slightly larger footprint required by single-level homes has become a luxury worth investing in for many homebuyers seeking accessibility, connection to outdoor spaces, and freedom from the constant up-and-down of daily life. Distinctive One-Story Homes for 2025 Here are two examples of Cottage Group’s single story homes listed in our portfolio: The Meadow: Modern Farmhouse Meets 50s Rambler. This fusion style takes the horizontal lines and efficient layout of mid-century ramblers but reimagines them with farmhouse aesthetics, with abundant use of glass to maximize saturation of natural light. Inside, the open concept living space includes modern interpretations of classic farmhouse... From the beginning, Dillard-Jones has always had one focus: our clients. You can see Dillard-Jones Custom (which includes both custom builds and our formerly-known Renovations division) gallery, as well as Cottage Group’s incredible... Renovation offers more than just a chance to update your living space. It provides an opportunity to thoughtfully blend cherished elements of your past with fresh, contemporary design. The most compelling homes tell a story through this dialogue between old and new, creating spaces that feel both timeless and in the present moment. When approaching your next renovation project, consider how this balance might create a home that's not only visually interesting but deeply personal. Include Keepsake Treasures & Artwork Your most meaningful possessions deserve to shine in your renovated space. That antique sideboard inherited from your grandmother, the collection of travel souvenirs gathered over decades, or the artwork that has followed you through multiple homes... these pieces bring soul to reimagined surroundings.   Rather than hiding these treasures away, design your renovation with specific showcases in mind. Consider built-in display niches illuminated with accent lighting, floating shelves that highlight smaller objects, or gallery walls that elevate family photographs to art status. When selecting new construction materials, choose complementary tones and textures that enhance, rather than compete with, your most precious items. Remember that sometimes the most striking design statements come from placing something weathered and storied against a backdrop of clean, contemporary architecture. Mix & Match Styles Freely Today's most sophisticated interiors reject rigid adherence to a single design era or aesthetic. Your mid-century modern dining chairs can absolutely coexist with a rustic farmhouse table or sleek contemporary lighting. The key lies in finding common elements — perhaps color,... Selecting the perfect community for your future home involves balancing lifestyle preferences, natural surroundings, and the unique character each location offers. The Carolinas present a remarkable spectrum of options, from the historic coastal charm of Charleston to the serene mountain retreats of western North Carolina. As you consider where to put down roots, explore these three exceptional communities that showcase the diversity of Carolina living. Charleston & John's Island, SC Charleston's Lowcountry allure combines rich history with coastal sophistication. The peninsula's cobblestone streets and colorful historic homes offer urban amenities alongside stunning harbor views. Just a short drive away, John's Island provides a more tranquil setting with sprawling oak canopies draped in Spanish moss and marshland vistas that change with the tides. This area appeals to those who appreciate cultural richness — from world-class dining to the renowned Spoleto Festival — while maintaining connection to nature through nearby beaches and waterways. Golf communities like Kiawah River Estates offer luxury living with championship courses, while historic estates converted to residential developments blend heritage with modern amenities. Lake Keowee, SC Nestled in South Carolina's northwestern corner, Lake Keowee offers 300 miles of shoreline and crystal-clear waters perfect for boating, fishing, and swimming. The lake's pristine beauty is complemented by surrounding forest and mountain views, creating a serene retreat that still offers proximity to Clemson University and Greenville's urban amenities. The Cliffs communities provide luxury lakefront living with private docks, championship golf, and wellness centers. The area experiences four distinct seasons while maintaining... When life transitions arrive — whether it's an empty nest, a career change, or simply evolving priorities — you as a homeowner face a crucial decision: move to a new house or reimagine the one you already have. Renovation offers compelling advantages over relocation. Typically costing significantly less than purchasing a new home, strategic renovations boost your property's market value while allowing you to remain in the neighborhood you love. You'll avoid the stress of house hunting, moving expenses, and the emotional toll of leaving a place filled with memories, all while creating spaces perfectly tailored to your present lifestyle. Transform Your Kid's Old Bedroom That quiet bedroom at the end of the hall doesn't need to remain a shrine to your child's high school memories. Consider transforming this space into something that speaks to your current needs. A dedicated guest suite with thoughtful touches makes visiting family and friends feel welcomed. Alternatively, pursue that passion you've set aside, like a craft room with custom storage for supplies, a music studio, or even a meditation sanctuary.   Remove outdated furniture and consider updating flooring, lighting, and wall colors to signify this space's fresh purpose. The key is designing for versatility, so the room can still accommodate overnight guests when necessary. Create an Office Oasis If you work remotely, elevating your home office beyond a laptop on the dining table becomes essential. Dedicate a specific room or repurpose an underutilized space like a formal dining room into a productivity haven.  ... Home renovation isn't just about updating fixtures or adding a fresh coat of paint – it's about reimagining the possibilities within the walls you already call home. When you love your neighborhood, cherish your local community, and have created years of memories in your space, a full home renovation offers the perfect solution to evolve your living environment without saying goodbye to the place you treasure. Think of renovation as a creative dialogue between your current lifestyle and your dreams for the future. Perhaps your growing family needs more functional space, or your work-from-home life demands a dedicated office sanctuary. Maybe your kids have flown the proverbial nest, and it’s time to transform kid-centric living to a more mature abode that reflects your current interests and lifestyle — such as a new crafting room or home theater. To illustrate the incredible potential of a complete home remodel, let's explore two stunning Dillard Jones Renovations projects that will inspire you: Living Rooms That Mix Memories and Modern Style In this first example, we’re invited into a classic yet contemporary midcentury modern living room that has a palpable mix of nostalgia and refinement. The gorgeous stone fireplace anchors the space, while the earthy-neutral palette is the perfect backdrop for a pop or two of 60s retro orange. Wooden beams give the room a rustic feel, which just adds to its cozy yet sophisticated appeal. Entertain with Sweeping Views and Calming Vistas From the same renovation, we are wowed by the stunning lake... In today's dynamic real estate market, many homeowners face a crucial decision: renovate their existing home or buy new. While the allure of a brand-new house is undeniable, renovating your current home might be the wisest financial and emotional investment you can make. Bloom Where You're Planted Your current neighborhood holds more value than you might realize. Years of building connections with neighbors, raising a family, knowing the best local spots, and creating memories in your community are priceless assets. Renovation allows you to maintain these deep roots while transforming your living space to meet your evolving needs. Instead of starting fresh in an unfamiliar area, you can enhance your existing home while preserving the familiarity, memories, social fabric and neighborhood relationships you've cultivated over the years. Good Bones Make for Great Renovations Older homes often possess structural integrity and architectural details that are expensive to replicate in new construction. High-quality materials, solid craftsmanship, and unique architectural features provide an excellent foundation for modernization. By renovating, you can preserve these valuable characteristics while updating systems, improving energy efficiency, and creating contemporary living spaces. The combination of classic architecture with modern amenities often results in a home that surpasses new construction in both character and value. Your Home is Your Best Retirement Asset Strategic renovation can significantly increase your home's long-term value, making it a powerful component of your retirement planning. By investing in thoughtful updates now, you're not just improving your current living situation – you're building equity that can... For over two decades, Dillard Jones’ commitment to excellence as a local home builder has been matched only by our dedication to the communities we serve. From the rolling hills of upstate South Carolina to the scenic beauty of Asheville and the charm of the Lowcountry, we've built more than houses – we've helped create thriving neighborhoods and lasting relationships. We Are Neighbors & Friends Being local means more than just having offices in the areas we serve. Our team members live in the same communities where we build, shop at the same stores, and send their children to the same schools as our homeowners. This deep connection to our communities gives us unique insight into local needs and preferences. We understand the distinctive character of each region we serve, from the architectural traditions of historic Asheville to the coastal aesthetics of South Carolina. When we build a home, we're not just working for clients – we're creating spaces for future neighbors and friends. We Give Back to Our Communities Our commitment extends far beyond construction sites. We actively participate in local initiatives, from partnering with Southern Living to support their chosen charities such as Operation Finally Home & Second Harvest Food Bank, to offering scholarships for community schools in South Carolina, helping Samaritan’s Purse provide hurricane relief in North Carolina, donating to Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, and supporting Emmanuel Nine Memorial Foundation. We believe that being a community leader means taking an active role in making our regions... Luxury no longer means sprawling mansions with endless rooms, like those common during America’s Gilded Age. Homeowners today are embracing a new paradigm: smart-sized luxury homes that combine elegant design with thoughtful efficiency. This growing trend reflects a deeper understanding that true luxury isn't measured in square footage, but in the quality of life a home provides. Down-Size or Smart-Size? Everyone from empty nesters to young professionals are leading this “smart-sized” home movement. For mature adults, it’s about seeking homes that better suit their current lifestyle while maintaining the refinement they've come to appreciate. Rather than viewing it as "downsizing," these discerning buyers see it as "smart-sizing" – creating spaces that work smarter, not larger. Big Style in a Smaller Package Smart-sized luxury homes prove that reducing square footage doesn't mean compromising on grandeur. These homes feature soaring ceilings, expansive windows, and open-concept living spaces that create an atmosphere of spaciousness. Clever architectural details like hidden storage solutions, multi-functional rooms, and indoor-outdoor living spaces maximize every square foot while maintaining an air of sophistication. Curated-Custom Touches You'll Love One advantage of smart-sized luxury is the ability to invest more in premium finishes and materials. Rather than overwhelming clients with endless options, builders like Cottage Group offer carefully curated selections that reflect current design trends and timeless elegance. From hand-scraped hardwood floors to custom-designed kitchen cabinetry, each element is chosen to create a cohesive, high-end aesthetic that speaks to your personal style. Smart-sized modern house plans represent the future of upscale... As Asheville's real estate market continues to evolve, homeowners are seeking innovative ways to maximize their living spaces while embracing the region's natural beauty. The latest trends in home additions reflect both the area's rich and mountainous architectural heritage and the changing needs of modern families. Several ways people are adding value to their homes include: Sunrooms That Shine have become the must-have addition for luxury homes, perfectly suited to the North Carolina four-season climate. These light-filled spaces feature energy-efficient windows that frame spectacular mountain vistas while maintaining comfortable temperatures year-round. Modern sunrooms incorporate elements of organic design, with exposed wooden beams, natural stone accents, and ample space for indoor plants. Many homeowners are opting for transitional indoor-outdoor spaces that allow for seamless integration with nature’s splendor. Bonus Rooms that Bring the Fun represent a creative approach to additional living space that focuses on recreation. These versatile areas are being transformed into home theaters, game rooms, art studios, and meditation spaces. Design elements often include sound-dampening materials, built-in storage solutions, and flexible furniture arrangements that allow the space to evolve with changing family needs.   Guest Suites for Multi-Generational Living have become increasingly important as families seek to accommodate aging parents or returning adult children. These thoughtfully designed spaces offer privacy and independence while maintaining connection to the main living areas. Modern guest suites feature private entrances, compact kitchenettes, and accessible bathroom designs. The emphasis is on creating comfortable, self-contained living spaces that can serve multiple purposes over time –... Located in the charming neighborhood of Palmetto Bluff, our newly constructed Idea Home offers the best of distinctive South Carolina architecture, with all the contemporary design and conveniences you’d expect in a luxury coastal home. From its screened-in wrap-around porch, perfect for late afternoon conversations over a glass of lemonade with a friend or neighbor... to its beautiful, walkable community, this warm and inviting abode is an ideal place for anyone to call home. Inside, a fresh, cozy palette of warm whites and abundant use of natural textiles such as sisal rugs and leather bar stools add to this beachy home’s appeal. A gently curved staircase, shiplap walls and an open floor plan bring charm and a quintessential Southern air of hospitality to the mix as well. With a simple yet spacious footprint, this home would be perfect for a young family, empty nesters, or really anyone who wants to call this special community home. And whether you’re a native South Carolinian or have been enticed by Bluffton’s warm weather, slower pace of life and ocean breezes to move from another state... There are so many reasons to celebrate living here. Bluffton Offers Unrivaled Historic Charm & Culinary Delights Nestled between Hilton Head Island and the historic streets of Savannah, Bluffton captures the essence of Lowcountry living with its distinctive blend of history, natural beauty, and modern convenience. This once-tiny fishing village, now a thriving coastal community, retains its small-town charm while embracing thoughtful growth and development. The heart of... Lake Keowee's crystal-clear waters, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, create an unparalleled setting for luxury lakefront living. With miles of pristine shoreline, countless secluded coves, and spectacular mountain vistas, this man-made paradise has become one of South Carolina’s most coveted locations for custom lake home construction. When envisioning your lake home retreat, you’ll want to strike a balance between paying homage to this extraordinary natural landscape and incorporating the highest standards of craftsmanship and design. With those points in mind, what are design elements high on your list for your future Lake Keowee home? Showcasing Beautiful Lake Views Floor-to-ceiling windows and strategic sight lines ensure that the sparkling waters of Lake Keowee remain visible from primary living spaces. Architects carefully position each room to maximize these views, creating moments of wonder as residents move through their home. Covered porches and outdoor living areas are designed to frame these vistas while providing comfortable spaces for outdoor enjoyment. Making the Most of Natural Light. Today's lake homes feature expansive windows, skylights, and thoughtfully placed glass doors that allow sunlight to flood every inch of your home's interior. This natural illumination not only reduces energy costs but also creates an uplifting atmosphere that changes with the seasons and time of day. Using an Abundance of Organic Materials. This design principle helps ground these luxurious homes in their natural setting. Local stone, reclaimed timber, and natural textures create a seamless connection between the built environment and the surrounding landscape. These... As the concept of luxury living continues to evolve, homeowners are increasingly seeking customizations that enhance both comfort and functionality. The latest trends in high-end home design focus on entertaining, promote wellness, and offer unprecedented convenience. Here's a look at three modifications that are revolutionizing luxury homes in 2025. Open-Defined Concept Architecture: The New Standard in Luxury Living Older style homes feature separate rooms that were meant to contain different activities — relaxing, dining, entertaining and cooking — but today’s modern abodes blend all of them together seamlessly with open-defined concept floorplans. So while you’re crafting your next culinary masterpiece in your gourmet kitchen, you can still converse with family and friends as they congregate in adjoining spaces. Starting more than a decade ago, many high end homes were designed with totally open concept living. Today, this trend has evolved into more designated rooms, yet still encourages natural flow between spaces. Architectural details such as artfully crafted door frames, baseboards and beamed ceilings add style and glamour without feeling closed off or contained. Sanctuary Rooms & Retreats: Personal Havens for Wellness The emphasis on personal well-being has given rise to dedicated sanctuary spaces within luxury homes. These rooms go beyond traditional meditation rooms or home spas, incorporating advanced technology and design elements that promote relaxation and rejuvenation. Modern sanctuary rooms have evolved into luxurious, multi-functional spaces tailored to wellness and relaxation. Here's an expanded look at some of their key features and possibilities: Saunas, gyms, and built-in audio features. Secondary... Maintaining your home on a quarterly basis isn't just about preserving its value — it's about ensuring your family's comfort and safety while preventing costly repairs down the line. By focusing on key areas every three months, you can catch potential issues before they become major problems and keep your home running efficiently throughout the year. A Sound Roof & Clear Gutters Your roof and gutter system forms your home's first line of defense against the elements, protecting you from moisture and mold. Each quarter, conduct a thorough visual inspection of your roof for missing, cracked, or curling shingles. Clean your gutters and downspouts, ensuring they're properly secured and directing water away from your foundation. During your inspection, pay special attention to flashing around chimneys and vents, as these are common areas for leaks to develop. A Healthy HVAC System Your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system works hard year-round to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. Quarterly maintenance should include replacing or cleaning air filters, and more frequently if you have pets. Check and clean all vents and returns, ensuring they're not blocked by furniture or curtains. Listen for unusual noises during operation and note any changes in performance. Have your ductwork inspected for leaks and schedule professional maintenance before peak heating and cooling seasons. Clear Pipes & Plumbing Plumbing issues can quickly escalate from minor inconveniences to major disasters. Every three months, check under sinks and around toilets for signs of leaks or water damage. Test your water pressure and... Modern French Country: A Palette of Timeless Elegance Imagine stepping into a kitchen that seamlessly blends the rustic charm of European countryside design with contemporary sophistication. The modern French Country style is all about creating a warm, inviting space that feels both refined and comfortable. The key is in the carefully curated earth-tone palette. Think soft beiges, muted terracottas, and gentle sage greens that create a soothing, natural backdrop. These colors work magic in creating a space that feels both elegant and welcoming. Textural elements play a crucial role in this design approach. Natural materials like quartz countertops, weathered wood accents, and old-world style lighting bring depth and character to the space. The result is a kitchen that feels timeless, with a sense of understated luxury that never goes out of style. Seamless Transitions:... Your luxury home on the South Carolina coast doesn’t have to be a mansion. Coastal condos have always held a special allure, offering breathtaking views and a relaxed lifestyle with a smaller footprint. Recently, there's been a surge in renovations of these seaside retreats, such as we’ve seen happening on beautiful Kiawah Island near Charleston. Let's explore the driving forces behind this trend, as more people embrace condo living. People Over 50 are Downsizing As kids head off to college and leave home, many homeowners find themselves with more space than they need. Empty nesters are increasingly drawn to the idea of downsizing to a condo, and even more so to one located in a coveted area like the South Carolina sea islands.   These smaller, more manageable spaces offer a chance to simplify life without sacrificing comfort or style. Renovating these condos allows new owners to tailor their living space to their exact needs and preferences, creating a perfect retirement haven. From new floors to designer finishes, renovating a newly purchased condo is like a blank slate for homeowners to choose exactly what they want. Vacation Condos are Booming The vacation property market is experiencing a significant uptick, with coastal condos at the forefront. Investors are recognizing the potential of these properties as both short-term rentals and future permanent residences. By renovating these condos, owners can create appealing spaces for vacationers while simultaneously preparing for their own future. Many are viewing these renovations as investments in their retirement, planning... Coastal living embodies a lifestyle of relaxation, natural beauty, and seamless indoor-outdoor connections. Whether you're renovating or simply want to infuse your home with oceanside allure, here are the must-have elements for a stylish maritime abode this year, and going into 2025. Bold Oceanic Accent Walls Gone are the days of subtle, muted tones dominating coastal interiors. 2024 is all about making a splash with bold, oceanic accent walls. Think deep navy blues, vibrant teals, and rich aquamarines that capture the drama of the tides. These statement walls serve as the anchoring backdrop for lighter furnishings and natural textures, creating an immersive atmosphere. Beautiful Marble Surfaces Marble is making a major comeback in high-end design, adding visual and tangible luxury to spaces reminiscent of the sea. From sleek kitchen countertops to elegant bathroom vanities, marble surfaces bring a sense of refined sophistication to beach homes. Opt for varieties with subtle veining that mimics the ebb and flow of ocean waves, creating a seamless connection to the environment. Beachy Vibes for Fido Pet-friendly design is taking center stage in 2024, and seaside-themed homes are no exception. Incorporate elements that cater to your furry friends while maintaining that beachy aesthetic. Think built-in pet beds that resemble driftwood, stylish food and water bowl stations with a nautical twist, and easy-to-clean indoor/outdoor fabrics for furniture that can withstand sandy paws and wet noses. Bringing Outdoors In The line between indoor and outdoor living continues to blur... We felt privileged to co-create this masterpiece with Allison Elebash of Allison Elebash Interior Design, Kirsten Schoettelkotte of MHK Architecture, and landscape designer Scott Parker of DesignWorks. Everything about this home is classical Carolina... from the old oak trees to the historic southeast raised farmhouse facade. From its gleaming white exterior, tabby concrete (crushed oyster shells) walkway to copper lanterns gracing the front door, charm abounds in every detail. Using a split, open floor plan, the home was constructed with a large great room housing the living and dining areas, along with the gourmet kitchen. A long gallery hallway just inside the front door leads to spaces on either end, including an outdoor living room and the primary bedroom on the ground floor. Old and new are blended in a way that feels fresh, elegantly coastal, and unforgettably Southern. The 2 story windows highlight the freestanding, white oak staircase that seems to float like a cottonwood seed from one floor to the next.
